There are many funny and interesting sign all over Kampala. I have started taking pictures of them and the first (fairly short, I thought I had more) series of them is the "signs of faith". Taking pictures of signs while in the car is very difficult because you really can't stop for that perfect shot. Click on the youtube link for the slideshow of the "signs of faith".

UGANDAN CULTURE
Personal Space
In the western world, we are uncomfortable if people enter too closely into our personal space, we would probably leave 18" or so between us and the next person in a line or in conversation. In Uganda, this space is significantly decreased, most likely because they usually grow up with many on one mattress or in one bed and in one small space. When you line up here, you can't leave any space between you and the Ugandan in front of you or someone will come up and slide into that space to "fill it". It has happened to us many times and now we line up very tightly!
Throwing Food
Tim learned this one while working on the slum houses. Tim was drinking a bottle of water and one of the guys he was working with asked if he could have one. Tim went into his cooler pack, got one out and tossed it to him. The guy was surprised and explained to Tim that it is a huge insult to throw food or drink to anyone, you only throw food to a dog. Apparently it's a really big deal. Oops!
